My plan for a generic classroom supports both teacher- and student-centered instruction and minimizes reliance on traditional rewards by relying more on encouragement of progress and effort, rather than the end result. Such encouragement motivates slower learners to keep working to attain class standards and faster learners to exceed those standards.

My Classroom Management Plan
Through my work for Learning and Teaching TEC610 I have begun to develop my ideas about how best to manage my classroom. There is certainly no one best way and I am developing my own style of classroom management. The plan will always be a work in progress as I change and develop my style according to my experiences and the classes I teach.
The purpose of my classroom management plan is to begin the process of developing a management style that works for me. This plan will enable me to better understand how I will teach and increase my confidence in my approach to classroom management. It is proactive rather than reactive to student demands. However, in the light of the realities of my student teaching placement, I may amend this plan and will remain flexible. I may write a new plan at the end of my student teaching, including a rationale for any amendments.
At this stage the plan will be my ‘ideal’ plan as the realities of my student teaching placement may mitigate against some of my plans. At appropriate points I will refer to the relevant theorists that I have discussed in my Learning and Teaching TEC 610 course.
My plan will include the following, along with a rationale for any choices:
1. A philosophical statement on my beliefs about classroom management. This will include a description of what I believe to be my teaching style.
2. Room arrangement map, or maps for different types of activities including a student seating arrangement, teacher desk, resources, displays, etc. I will include a written explanation of my choice of arrangement(s).
3. Classroom rules — Why did I select these rules? What do they include? How will I communicate them to students, parents, administrators etc.
4. Classroom procedures — How are the lessons structured? How do they start and finish? I will include some of the principles of your assessment and grading plans.
5. I will describe how I intend to encourage and respond to positive students and how I will manage students that are behaving negatively in my class. I will describe techniques I will use to maximize the effectiveness of my classroom management, including specific techniques discussed in Learning and Teaching TEC 610.
